    Thinking about converting

Considering the move from Lowrance to Garmin. I've always liked the images from Garmin better however have not enjoyed there software interface nearly as much. I'm running two carbon units, a 12" and the console and a 9" at the bow. What are the most comparable models to what I have? I need touch screen and will eventually get Livescope.

Great, thanks. Some of the model lines are confusing.

GPSmap 86xx series are the top of the line and $$$$........

Just know that you can not network the Echomap and GPSmap "families". They must stay in their own "family" to network.

Good info. From the littel research I've done I would stay with the EchoMap series. As far as networking goes, is it just a cable? Do they network wirelessly? What is networked? Can they share transducers or just waypoints like on NMEA?

Great. And this is for any of the echo series or is there a series within the echo lineup that does not have those capabilities?

Ethernet cable for waypoints, maps, sonar, etc., NMEA for sensors like external antenna, heading sensor, radio, etc.

The Striker series are the "Low" end and they do not network or Livescope capable.....Echomap 73 UHD and up along with Ultra will network.

Dont let the numbers confuse you. All the Echomap Ultra units are identical except for mapping.
102-122 have the base mapping. 106-126 have more detailed G3 mapping.

Ok. I have a navionics card so I'm not really worried about the mapping.

So Garmin owns navionics but it doesn't work in their units?

Garmin has incorporated Navionics data where appropriate into their mapping products. This mapping is built-in when you by an Echomap with preloaded LakeVu g3 mapping (like the 106 and 126). The Ultra accessory mapping card adds extra features (see link below for comparison).

I keep one Carbon unit basically just for mapping. It's way better than Garmin for the area I fish.

If I had to do all over I would get the 8600 series as it seems those are the most advanced and upgradable units. All the others seem to go outdated at some point.

Thanks for all the responses. One of the main reasons I am switching is the lower unit interferes with my massive Lowrance transducer. I've not made up my mind yet but it would appear the Garmin and Humminbird would not interfere. I am also considering the Solix units. In fact, after being told that Lowrance units have better mapping than Garmin does I am leaning towards Humminbird. Mapping is a big deal for me.

You said in the OP you would eventually get livescope. No reason to go Bird. Garmin mapping isn't that bad.
