seastar steering is hitting top of transom.

Seastar steering is hitting top of transom.I have a 6inch atlas jackplate.224020026_1013317942737195_7554567634403842086_n.jpg224670347_518648102763182_7329802857686517809_n.jpg
I can go up one one hole. to make it higher.
But I lose speed. I get better performance at its lowest position.
Could I get a 8inch jackplate to solve this issue?

Further set back will clear the transom, you can get an 8” plate or add 2” set back spacers from Bob’s machine shop. They will be cheaper.

It will be 2” longer than the 6”, setting the engine 2” further back. You might also be able to run the engine a little higher due to the added set back.

Looks like you could raise the motor one notch on the plate. Out of the 6” of vertical travel the sweet spot is inside an inch or so. Having a slightly higher mounting helps the attitude when pushing through shallow water and should not affect your lower end at all.

You lost speed because your too high prop to pad.

What boat and motor is it. Is that a hydraulic plate?

    Ranger rt198p. Yes it’s a hydraulic 6 inch atlas. I’m planning to get a 8inch bobs machine

I got the 8inch jackplate. Trimming the motor should clear the transom now

You can get a limiter to stop the motor from trimming up high enough to hit the transom. Can you raise the motor up far enough to clear the transom by changing bolt holes on the motor mount then you would have to lower the motor when you are running. Since it's a tin boat it's going to run lower than a glass boat all the time since it doesn't have a pad. If the only difference is the spacer Id' send it back and buy a 2" spacer but I would check on the limiter for the tilt.
