    GPS Puck or not?

I am having two HDS9s installed on a new Caymas. I know the units have built-in GPS, but is it advisable to purchase a GPS Puck and mount that somewhere in the clear? Can one puck be use for both networked units?

    Thanks
    Greg

As long as the GPS-receiver in the unit has a fairly clear view of the sky, There are no (noticable) upsides of a seperate GPS-receiver in itself. For flush-mounted units, units under a metal T-top etc, you will in many cases get more precise positioning with the external GPS-receiver. Yes, the external receiver (Typically a Point-1) will network with all units using NMEA2000.
