My feeling is that Texas was the beginning of the end for the Big 8. This is and always has been about money. That is why I have a hard time calling this amateur sports.

Vanderbilt probably feels pretty similar to the way Florida feels ever since Urban Meyer left in 2010. For the most part they are irrelevant lol

When Arkansas left in '91 (because of Texas), revenues fell every year after that till the conference was shuttered in '95. The death penalty in '87 didn't help the SWC, but wasn't directly responsible for its death.
