Thumbs Up Northern Champlain in Mid September ?

I want to take my son up fir a three day fishing trip -can we expect to get on some good fishing at that time -thinking 17-18-19 of September -is that a tough transitional time then or should be a solid productive time to go -I typically go up there late June and never in the fall -thinking some drop shots, Ned rig, Topwater jerkbait senko approach for that time of year -anyone like the September timeframe up around north hero area?

I have a neighbor who goes to Champlain in mid-September and he loves it, for him its mostly "power" fishing with spinnerbaits, swim baits, etc. He hates drop shots and doesn't own a Ned rig. Don't push the date too late though.

Fished some Everstarts there at that time of year, and jerk baits on rocky points over in the In Land Sea worked good. Catch one and see 55-6 more following. Chartreuse spinnerbaits worked well also. Watch the water levels, it probably won't come up in the next couple of months and will still be below normal.

Its down this year but its probably average now for the time of the year. Its been in the 95ft range for what seems like all year now. By sept the lake will be around 94 ft probably. Mid sept is a good time. Honestly the entire year is pretty good if not great, there isn't a bad time, rarely do tournaments weights stray from 20lbs to win no matter what time of the year.

Throw a willow leaf gold and white spinnerbait till your arm falls off.

Then throw it some more with your other arm.

Great time to be there. The wind can be a factor but there are ramps and areas to fish on any wind. Dave is a great resource for that information.

    Have fun.

I go all the way thru Oct. some years and although you can get high winds and cold spells it still beats the fishing around here.

Two years ago next week we crossed the lake from Plattsburg NY to Grand Ilse on the ferry and can honestly say in all my years that was the roughest fresh water lake I've ever been on with huge winds coming straight up from the south.

Infact I joked with my wife that it reminded me of my Navy days.
