I think he said himself his issues may have been caused by using flourocarbon mainline to flouro leader and he wasn’t able to detect bites until the already had swim towards the boat. He thinks he should’ve done braid to flouro.

Still a semi decent chance Scott get in. All he needs is for someone (twice) already qualified to win an Open, or someone jackpotting their home lake winning that didn't fish all the Opens.

I am not sure how many double qualifiers there are at this point 3 or 4. The St Lawrence winner, classic winner Hank Cherry, Brandon Palaniuk and I thought there might be one more Open winner but not sure ?

I fished from a guys Ranger last year and never caught a fish (can't recall how long it had been since that had happened), I see he's fishing out of a Caymas this year.

I was partially correct. My last statement on that thread was "Scott Martin will be a common heard name for the next few years in BASS". So far that's correct but I did not think we would be talking about how embarrassing his last two finishes were and how he is on the outside looking in. I still think he is capable of a top 10 in BASS AOY but he definitely has to start putting up better numbers. Heck you got to make it into the top 40 before you can make it into the top 10

Anyone from the north who watched Scott fish the last 2 tournaments can see that he is not very good or very familiar with the subtilties of drop shutting. It is a big weakness in his game. He even admitted that he used the wrong type of rod for this technique and he tried to cover his weakness with Carolina rigging which obviously (1) didn't work and (2) was rigged with the wrong terminal tackle to work on smallmouth.

As a big Scott Martin fan I hope he can still slip into the Classic but he still has some things to learn if he expects to compete on the northern swing.

What kind of rod did he use and what was wrong with his C-Rig setup?
