Help with Minn Kota depth collar

The depth control collar on my older MK Riptide cracked and won’t hold. Can anyone tell me if the control head or the foot have to be removed in order to put a new one on?? Or can the replacement collar be spread far enough to snap it onto the shaft without removal?
Any tips would be appreciated here. Thanks!

It is best to remove the control head. You can not take the shaft off the motor and replace the depth collar.

Thanks....I had seen some part review comments elsewhere that indicated that it could be done without removing....sure would be easier.

It can be done, but is risky. could crack or break the new one.

For an emergency, can you put a radiator hose clamp under it?

Thanks everyone…. Just an FYI….I tried the hair dryer trick to warm the plastic collar and it worked. I was able to spread it enough to snap it onto the shaft. Didn’t appear the stress the material at all so we’ll see if it lasts.
    Thanks for the help.
