    Recarpeting my Javelin boat

I need some information from some of my wiser boaters... I'm in the process of replacing all the carpet on my 2001 Javelin boat. When I pulled up the carpet from the bottom floor I found piles of broken pieces of this stuff. The purpose behind it seems to be to level the floor where the top and bottom halves of the boat meet. I've scraped and sanded most of it away at this point. It's super hard and durable but when I heated it with a torch it softened into a rubbery piece. I think the purpose was just to make those edges smooth enough for the carpet to adhere to.

What is it? Is it from the factory? What can I use to replace it? I've asked several marine restoration shops and no one seems to know what it is.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's just a marine bondo to fill in lows and gaps, ie floor leveler. You can fill in the gaps with new fiberglass matt before you carpet.

My 1992 Javelin had some filler like that. It was not all broken up like yours, I added a new layer of fiberglass cloth over the entire floor and bondo with fiberglass to level up.

I just redid my 97 Javelin 409 over the winter. It had this same stuff but it was in great shape, no cracks or chunks and a little lighter color.
