2005 low water pickup lower unit

I have a friend with a 2005 enivrude 225 with the factory low water pickup lower unit and the local dealer told him that those lower units are prone to sucking up weeds and plugging the block up and causing overheating problems. I have run a merc for years and never heard such a thing and I google it i cant find anything on this. has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

I've mostly just clogged the pee hole on mine..... Easy enough to pull the thermostat caps and stats and flush.....never ran it hot. You do need to trim up high in shallow water.....
