2005 Evinrude H.O. 225 Hesitation

Idle sounds OK. When accelerating there is a miss (lose power for a second - happens multiple times) and then throttles up and I can get on plane. Seems fairly smooth until I get to 4500 RPM...the hesitation comes back. If I let the RPMs drop to just on plane the miss comes back. This issue started to trips ago and seems to be getting worse.

Please ask me the questions you need the answers to for you to possibly guide me on what to look for.

Do you have the Evinrude diag software or Evinrude manual? Be nice to see if you have any alarms set in the ECM.

How old are your plugs?

Have you updated to Etec thermostats and plugs?

The bottom two butterfly’s on the intake are attached with rubber hose to the others for their operation. Good to check and see if one is closing or not opening all the way up.

I would pull the plugs and check gap on them. I check mine every couple of trips. I love my engine but it eats plugs. Also make sure they all look the same. I had one that was always clean and it was a bad reed. Something else to look at.

Exhaust pressure sensor been cleaned lately?

I would really really really recommend finding an Evinrude manual. Best 100 bucks I ever spent. Then the diag software knock offs can be bought on EBay. That’s what I use. They are life savers.
