Looking for advice on driving at high speed, falcon 195

Finish the First two hours of Break in on my falcon F195/200 today. I trimmed the motor up and raised the jack plate about an inch, it’s hydraulic, and was able to get right at 5600 RPMs and 66 mph and then it started to chine walk really bad and I don’t have experience with that and did not want to get thrown out of boat LOL I don’t know if that’s all I should expect at this time since the water was 87°. From what I understand the warmer water makes it more difficult for your motor to reach max RPM at 6200. Any advice on trimming or use of the hydraulic jack plate would be appreciated. By the way anyone thinking about this boat it is fantastic I love it way more than I thought I would. By the way I am running the mercury 23 pitch three blade prop.

i would measure ptp and see what setting on the JP corresponds to what ptp number in inches. raising plate will help chine walk but too much kills water pressure and adds to slippage. 4s merc likes to see 6200k rpms lots of videos on chine walk and how to control it on you tube takes seat times mostly but helps to have someone who can drive with it to show you how to do it.

Thanks for the reply. I have never owned a boat with a hydraulic jack plate and never with this big of a motor so it is all new to me. I’m sure what time I will get the hang of it. Like you said I need to figure out what my prop to pad At different hydraulic gauge numbers

It will take some playing. The lower on these new mercs is a club dragging in the water. It will take you some trial and error to find out where it likes to be to keep the chine done. As well different props with want different heights. If your running a 3 blade Fury it likes to be deeper in the water then a Tempest Plus and Bravo 1.

Balance of your gear can help as well with the chine, move stuff around first to try and reduce it.

Steering controls for trim and lift really help you dial things in for EACH time you drive it.

There's no "magic setup" to eliminate chine walk. You can balance your gear all day, but that prop spinning at 3300 RPM's is putting rotational force on the entire boat. Seat time and getting used to controlling the boat on pad is the only way.

Or trim down a bump or two. You'll lose some speed and gain stability.

Falcons like to be light in the front and balanced......move your heavier tackle to the back....if its just you running boat most of the time make sure you put a lot of weight on the port side storage to balance out as well. Dustin Dennis has a lot of video's on youtube getting crazy speed but ZERO walking......John A has a 215 and gets low to mid 70's with zero walk as well.....doesnt even touch the steering wheel. Some of your issue could be an unbalanced prop as well so I wouldnt hesitate sending it out to Croxton and getting it balanced and printed.

Good luck let us know how it goes!

Thanks. Getting ready to order a spare prop. I will contact him. Do you know if he sells props or does he just work them?

yes he does both. Id do some research on what prop guys are running with your set up and see which prop is working best and then send that out and get balanced and printed. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! I did get some seat time and really concentrated on working the trim along with the jack plate. I was able to get 5800 RPMs and 68 mph. I am sure with some more seat time as my skills improve I will be able to hit that magical 70. Doubt I will drive it that fast very often. Just want to see if it’ll do it

you are plenty close with those numbers need about 6000-6200 but when weather cools you might be right there with that prop?

That’s exactly what I was thinking. To tell the truth it really doesn’t matter. Guess it’s just the macho thing you know having the fastest boat you can. Won’t catch any more fish or have any more fun whether I hit 70 or not. Hitting Lake Okeechobee in the morning for my second day. Going to get in a lot of drive time as I will be exploring the lake. I did not realize how intimidating it could be to be on the lake that size and not know where you are or where are you should go.

Even with the GPS Okeechobee can be pretty intimidating when you can’t see land in any direction. If the wind picks up it’s like an ocean! My poor little aluminum Triton got me across it when the storms popped up one day but it was scary!

alann, what’s your impressions of the F195? It’s one of 3 boats I’m strongly considering.

I would recommend going to Bass Cat Boats forum and watch video of Rick Pierce and Randy Vance. It is the best video I have seen on driving a high performance bass boat.
