    Flipping/punching

For you right handers that made the switch to a lefty reel, how was this process? When pitching with the right handed reel it kills my left shoulder, I'm trying to decide if I pitched with a left handed reel would it be and better, just not sure of how long it would take to get used to it. I've got good coordination being man that handle bring on the left seems to weird.

Learn to punch with your left hand so you don't have to switch, simple. Tried a left handed bait caster and I hated it.

I also just learned to punch and flip with my left hand. Lefty reels just don't feel right. It took awhile but now I almost exclusively flip with my left hand.

Tried it. Hated it. Went back to right handed reels.

I switched years ago, at first all I could do was throw a Left Handed reel for flipping, but now I can use either reel for anything.

Now to learn to actually pitch with my left hand.

Can't get used to a left handed reel. Should be the way to go but just doesn't work for me.

A tip I tell everyone that's learning is to get a reel with a flipping switch. It seems to be much easier to release the thumbar and set the hook no matter where the rod is. Quantum is the only ones i have found, but i haven't looked too hard. I use all Lew's accept for flipping, and have quantums with a flipping switch for that. Some cant get used to it, but makes it much easier IMO>

All Daiwa baitcasters from past 10-12 years have that feature built in

I flip with my left hand, problem is when I do it for 20-30 minutes my left shoulder starts killing me, the last thing I need or want is shoulder surgery. I feel the same way most of you do, I think I'm going to hate the left hand retrieve so I can pitch right handed without swapping hands, my thought though is it's such a short retrieve normally while pithing. By the way, I don't fish a C-rig very much because of the shoulder, it doesn't bother me when my hands are down like cranking, spinnerbait etc.

My biggest issue was setting the hook, just didn't feel comfortable swinging on a fish....back to the right

I'm right handed and use a "lefty" reel for everything. I've never understood why guys use their non-dominant hand for setting the hook, and use their dominant hand for simply reeling in. Plus switching hands after the cast just seems annoying.

Took about a year to get used to the hookset, but now its second nature. get in alot more flips not having to switch hands everytime.

Flipping and punching is the way I fish 99% of the time. I see no issue with switching hands. Sure sometimes you get bit as soon as that bait hits the water but I don't ever feel that it has cost me a fish or reduced my number of pitches in a day.

I am left handed and always felt they got the designation backwards. The first time I used a right handed one, I said "no" this is a left handed reel. It takes better dexterity to get the lure out than bring it in.
