150 hp ok for 96 268 stratus?

Would I be alright with a 150 hp on a 96 stratus 268? Also - I’m hearing a knock in the engine, I’m guessing this is not good?? Lol starts right up ever time and runs smooth but that knock…. Scares me! Any thoughts anyone would be greatly appreciated!! Thx

Stop running it before you cause more damage. Get it into a shop asap. As far as the 150, what does the plate say the max HP is for that hull. Looks like the max HP is 140 for that hull. As long as you can insure it, 150 will be fine.

Thx for the reply’s guys. I’m taking it in to the shop this weekend. I remodel houses for a living and don’t know much about engines, do you guys have any clue how much it would cost to fix that knock? I imagine it’s pretty involved, but I’m thinking about just either buying a new engine or replacing the power head in that one? It pisses me off because that knock was NOT there a month ago when I bought the boat!! I guess that’s what Boat stands for….. Bring Out Another Thousand! Lol

If you have the funds to repower that is a viable option. It depends on how much you want to spend. Going to an EFI motor will save some money on fuel versus an old carbed engine.

Ok, I’ll looking at a 4 stroke 140 this weekend. I’ve tried to find a website that sells stratus parts. As far as the live well switches, speedometer ect… do you guys know of one you could give me a link to? I tried Iboats, with no luck . Thx
