    Rod Storage

I have a 2005 TR-186 and I don't know if it's just me but the rod locker is absolutely useless. I've had the boat for years and never even try to use it because it's so hard to get rods in and out of. I would like to use it and hear of people modifying theirs to work better but not exactly sure what they are doing. Could someone please explain to a dumb old man what to do? I think they remove the tubes in the front or something. Thanks in advance...

Yup, remove the tubes and rack. I can stuff 30+ rods in there without the tubes and rack. I highly suggest getting rod socks though.

So those of you who have removed the rod storage racks and tubes, you just lay your rods in the rod locker and just pile them on top of each other?

Blows my mind that people still leave the rod organizers in their boats. I guess if you only bring 5-7 rods its fine but shoot I don't think I've ever left the house with less than a dozen rods in the locker lol.

It does limit the number of rods that will fit in the locker. Having said that, I don't think I would like just having all my rods piled on top of each other unorganized.

Hence, the rod socks/sleeves. I use different colors to identify rods as to purpose: cranking rods are blue; worm/soft plastics are black; spinnerbait/chatterbait rods are red, etc. Spining rods are socked by length and the reel identifies the power. I also store casting rods in the port locker, spining rods in starboard locker. Pretty easy to get the rod I want out of a locker.

On my last boat I did leave the butt end organizer but the tubes will come out 100% of the time for me. Plus generally I stack them in the rod locker in order of which ones I'll used first. So my first 3-5 picks for the day will be sitting on top. Then digging through the remaining rods isn't that tough.

I left mine in. Only hold 7 rods in the locker but I have 5 underneath the holders on the carpet. Works just fine. I have a rod for each technique and still use the locker.
