    Grab handle?

Is there any way to mount a grab handle on the existing hull setup of the Classic XL's? Analyzing the current setup, it almost appears like they carpeted directly on top of the existing aluminum with no additional wall or buffer in between the metal. Ideas? I can post a picture up of the setup if anyone wants to see the area in question.

If it is aluminum, you can use a non-aluminum reacting self threading sheet metal screws to mount it. I'd drill a smaller hole through the carpet. I'd put a small piece of tape down where you plan to drill so you can find the hole

If I use sheet metal screws it would go right through the hull and you will see it from the outside of the boat.

Sorry for not specifying. I just caught that. I am wanting to attempt to install a grab handle either similar to this or more traditional like on the bottom two photos on the gunwale or gunnel of my own Classic XL so my passenger can grab on as we fly around, but it appears they carpeted over the metal on the gunwale and there is no wall buffer material between the hull's metal and the carpet itself.

Yes, it does appear that the inner passenger wall is the hull. You could use a screw on and seal the two screw heads on the outside hull.

Or use retractable hand holds under seat.

Do you have links to those retractable style hand holds? I've seen some people use gym style workout handles but if the seat flips forward for storage you would have to dig out those handles to make them re-accessible every time.

Ranger use to use them, had a couple on my 05' 519VX.

Tried doing a quick search, they seem to have gone out of vogue. Found them only in bulk.

Just a thought, but maybe Ranger has them in stock.

Do you have a photo of what those look like? They should have them in stock still or at least available in their catalog. My buddy just lost a hatch to his hooptie '06 Ranger glass boat recently and those were still available so I don't see why these wouldn't be.

This looks like an okay solution, I'd rather avoid drilling into the gunnels, but the more I really look into all of this it seems like that may be the only feasible way to make this possible.
