The current Delta variant is now the dominant strain in the US, is far more contagious and can be more severe, and the data indicate that the vast majority of new cases are the Delta variant occurring among the unvaccinated. From a public health perspective, the problem is that the greater the unvaccinated population, the more likely new mutations will occur. Kramer got it exactly right, “Mother Nature is a mad scientist, Jerry!” Those new mutations will likely be even more contagious and possibly even be able to circumvent the vaccines. If so, we’ll be up to our neck in trouble and back to “square one.”

Many of the variants are less deadly...so far. But, without widespread vaccines, the mutations will continue and one or more of them may be able to circumvent the vaccines. In fact, public health folks would argue that if mutations continue, it will not be IF one of them will circumvent the vaccine, but WHEN. Then, we're in deep $hit, as the death rate will again spiral upward, lock downs and mask mandates return, and another major economic downturn occurs.

You're right. I would not line up for a cancer vaccine, in an emergency use only scenario, that still did not prevent me from getting cancer, but lessoned cancers symptoms. You be the test subject. Also, a vaccine is not a cure for any disease.
