Welding on boat trailer precautions ?

I have a Mobil welder meeting me at the ramp in the morning, his is going to weld up a cracked bow winch mount , I am wondering if I should disconnect trailer from truck to avoid electrical surge to trucks electrical system ?

It SHOULD be fine, but in the interest of caution, it certainly won’t hurt to disconnect the trailer from the truck.

I would never weld on it without disconnecting from the tow vehicle.
3 minutes could save hundreds if anything went wrong.

I wouldn't take any chances. Might as well unhook it no more effort than it takes.

Unhook and pull tow vehicle away from trailer before welding. But I'm sure your welder would make you do that anyway before he started.

If the welder ensures a reliable ground on the trailer it would be fine, after all it's common to weld vehicle exhaust components, body & frame repairs, etc... Since it's easy, I'd go the 100% safe route and disconnect.

I disconnected my trailer and cut off the power to my electronics in my boat. No sense in having any possibility of a surge through your marine electronics either.

How is current gonna get to boat from trailer? It’s sitting on carpet covered wood… and fiberglass doesn’t conduct..

Also be careful if you are welding on tube where lights wiring may be located. They will melt..I know from experience

anything is possible. Right off the jump…transom saver is from my trailer to my motor. of course I could take that off too. To me a quick disconnect from my batteries seemed like a good idea with $10,000 off electronics sitting wired to it. Even if fuses blew, still a pita

How close is the weld going to be to the trailer wiring? I’d be a little cautious about the insulation getting burned off -
just due to heat. May not be an issue.
