    Bravo on a Caracal?

I'm considering buying a bravo to run on my Caracal with a merc 225 pro xs 4s. I'm considering a 25, a 25.5, and a 26p prop. Boat has the rear end 26 gallon tanks, dual 8ft poles, 36 lead acid batteries, and a bobs hydraulic plate. Any have any experience with this prop or any suggestions for the pitch?

    Thanks!

All 3 would work depending the load. Most cup is 25.5 it’s a 25 with added cup. 26 is a 27 with cup removed. If it were mine I would put a 25.5 on it.

Avoid Bravo props with the +1.5" pitch sizes. They have too much cupping and kill speed. (avoid 23.5, 25.5, 27.5, 29.5, etc.) All other sizes work well.

I thought it was the other way around?

This info came from the Prop specialist and project engineer for Mercury Racing when I talked to him at the Classic.

Buy a 25 and send it to Ronnie Gilbert. You'll thank me later.

Somebody has it wrong. All Bravos start at even pitch, and pitch added for more pitch, not taken away. The 25 Bravo has the same base number as the 24 Bravo. The 26 and 27 have the same base number, different from the 25 and 24 bravos.

John- That’s the way I always understood it as well. But the engineer from Merc told me the opposite so just repeating what he said. I’ve run several Bravos 25,26,27 but never had a .5 pitch. Want to try one on my Jag for heavier loads as well as a Croxton Razor 4XL. We will see. Big fan of the Bravo on the Caracal that I owned and it worked extremely well on my buddies Lynx.

+.5 is OK. +1.5 is not. I still have a letter from Mercury Racing with an explanation that they were not designed for bass boats but for flats boats where holeshot is the prime issue (Don Weed at European Marine also has a copy). They sure don't advertise them that way. I had Croxton fish mine.

There's yet another Bravo for flats boats. Smaller diameter. Would love to see how it performed on a bass boat. Bravo 1 OC.

I was able to pick up a 26p Bravo XS for my Lynx (250ProXS 4s). 4 holes plugged and was able to hit 73.5, but my rpms were only at 5815. I don't remember exactly where I had my jackplate, but it was between 1-3. I was running a 24p Fury 3 before. Holeshot on the Bravo was maybe a touch better. Midrange was great. The biggest difference was overall handling and much better lift. The boat felt much more in control and responsive.
