    What is this?

If it is a Green Sunfish it is the first one I have caught out of the lake I was on today. Look at the coloring on the bottom and fins.

... largemouth with a rare genetic thingy that makes them turn yellow. One was in the new recently. I caught one on Lake Wylie early this season. Thought it was sick or pollution got it or something until I read the news article.

Looks like a green sunfish to me, millions of them in Smith Mountain Lake and they will eat anything. Warmouth is a decent guess as well and many locals on SML use the two names interchangeable as they are very similar. They make for good flathead bait.

That’s a lunker for a green sunfish, worthy of mounting!

That's like taking pictures of a person straight down from above their head and straight up from below their feet

I have been catching some similar looking greensunfish/warmouth/Whatthephuck fish while flipping mats the last few years.

Not too mention that all species of freshwater bass are sunfish.
