GPS will work with out puck.
I don't know what else it does, but you'll need the heading sensor (puck) if you want to the use the jog feature which is really cool.
The Ultrex has a built-in GPS module located in the Head of the TM that is used for navigation features. The external Bluetooth Heading Sensor is like an electronic compass that provides Heading input to the TM and is only required if you want to use the Jogging feature. The TM can perform all other functions without the Heading Sensor installed.
