    Lithium Battery as Starter?

What’s the Evinrude policy for warranty on Lithium battery as a starter battery.
I know Mercury says don’t use it.

The bulletin is not a “no” but be sure it can be charged by the engine system as recommended by the battery manufacturer. Almost guaranteed the battery manufacturers has not tested specifically on an Evinrude E-Tec.

I am running a Miller lithium battery as a starter. I have 2017 Ranger 519C with a 225 G2 HO. The dealer I purchased the boat from recommended lithium batteries for the starting batteries and 3 75 amp batteries for the Ghost trolling motor. I have a Miller 125amp on the starter. I went 3 days without charging at Guntersville in the spring and still had 70% battery on the trolling motor batteries. No issues so far with the lithium for a starting battery.

Ok thanks, just not sure if I’ll use one. After some more research it is possible lithium will be replaced by zinc ion battery technology. Maybe the TM batteries for now so I can fit a electronics dedicated battery in the compartment.

Been using one for a couple years. Zero issues. Now, you probably can’t use just any lithium. I’ve been running the Relion 100

Maybe they've changed over the years but when I bought my 100 AH Relions for my 24 volt trolling motor, I was told by Relion that their batteries aren't recommended for cranking my 125 Mercury because of the long crank-times compared to newer outboards.

They make the 100HP for cranking now.

Do you know the amount of current that is being provided by the motor to the battery after the motor starts?

Any idea as to the current flowing from the motor to the battery after the motor has started?

All depends on the load served.

Battery is an electrical load. Wondering how much current that load draws.

Battery load changes as state of charge changes.

Also, was asked AFTER engine is running, so other loads must be included to deduce total amperage output.

Just looking for ruff numbers. Recognizing that current flow varies as the battery state of charge varies. That current flow is a function of other loads.

    10 Amps, 20 amps, 40 amps, 60 amps...

please clarify the question. Is it meaning the Evinrude charging system? Alternator / amp output on Evinrude is rpm related. Idle speed is 18 to 20 amps. That output climbs as rpm is increased to 50 amps some where around 3800 4500 rpm. I do not remember the exact amps.

Looking for whatever the current flow is from the motor to the battery after the motor has been cranked and started. Have no expectations as to what it is.

If the current flow increases as the RPM increases so be it. Nature of the beast.

Surprised to see 50 amps. That is stated to be the maximum output of a G2 ETEC.

    My 250HO G2 specs:

    Alternator Output -- 133 Amps Total / 50 net Dedicated / 14 amps @ idle
