Trim/tilt and controls compatibility question

Would the tilt/trim and controls from a 1993 Evinrude E50TLETB be compatible with a 1988 Johnson J40TELCCS? I have the opportunity to buy a parts motor (no compression on bottom cylinder) complete with controls. My '88 is a long shaft as is the parts motor. What would be the simplest way to mate these two motors together?

I would suggest you go to the stickies tabs and look at the important links tab and scroll down the the EPC (electronic parts catalog) link and compare the components. Look at the midsection tab.
