    200hp 2002 Vmax throttle stuck??

Our 2002 200hp 3.1 vmax had the throttle stick at WOT. Pulled the kill switch and shut down. Started it back up and no more problem. Maybe related maybe not but still an issue. One time you run it WOT is 5000 rpms and the next time it is 5400 rpms. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

What is the model of the motor? What type of Yamaha control box? Top mount, external side mount, flush side mount, or ???

Are you saying that when you pulled back on the throttle handle that it would not retard the throttle? That might be scary at 60 MPH approaching a dock.

Is the throttle cable securely mounted at both the control box end and the motor end?

Have you disconnected the throttle cable at the helm to see if the problem is within the control box? Is it stiff and/or binding?

With the throttle cable removed at both ends, does it move smoothly and freely?

If both the control box and the cables seem OK, then I would make a close inspection of the linkages and such on the motor itself. Remove the air intake silencer and inspect the throttle plates.

The engine is the 3.1 liter EFI Vmax, tag says VX200TLRA. The controls are flush side mount. You could not pull the throttle lever back to slow down, it was stuck WOT, would not move, yes a little unnerving. We have not inspected any connections yet but will. Thank you for your help

Sounds like you have a cable or linkage issue to me. There is nothing with the engine running that would stop the butterflies from closing. Some thing has to be mechanically interfering with the linkage/cables. CJ
