    Champion 186 1998

Going to look at a 1998 champion 186 with a 175hp mercury. Before I go, can anyone tell me some about fishing out of one? Dual console...how long is the front deck (can I fit a 7'6" rod on the deck). Any info would be great. Asking 9500 for it...

It's a fun boat, really quick and responsive on the troll motor, deck is more than ample.
Yes it'll hold that size rod no problem.

With a 175 merc, what do you think the top speed would be loaded down for a tourney? 58ish?

Like Pat said its a great hull and that's a really good price if the boat, motor, and transom check out.

Great boat, I had one. Amazing bass fishing boat. As they get older they get slower.

Mine runs 59-60 with a 150 so about 65 I would guess if propped right. That rod length is no problem.

My 186 is around 8' from tip to console. If you have bad knees or are old like me you may want to add a step between consoles

He said he's getting 56 mph with a 4 blade prop. What 3 blade would you guys recommend?

I ran a 23" Tempest on mine at 3 1/4" under the pad on a 6" jackplate. Ran a consistent 63 MPH with a 175 Optimax. Never fooled with it to try to get max speed. Holeshot and handling were great. Plenty rough water at Toledo Bend and no need to go to a 4 or 5 blade. Had a 23" Trophy for a back up but never used it after trying both.

I have a 97 186 with a 97 Johnson fast strike ...... with a Renegade 4 blade (Loaded) I run low to mid 50's all day. Alone with a light load 60-62. Had a Raker 24 on and gained a little top end (lost a bit in hole shot) but overall I preferred the 4 blade & that's what I run. Awesome fun dry boat. Nice front deck, Lacking on rear deck storage. I also have a single Talon on my rig & I believe the boat would run better without it but I use it so it stays.

Was yours the 175 or 150 fast strike? The motor on the one I’m looking at is a 175 mercury EFI. The boat itself is very very well cared for.

Great 18' boat. Very nimble and fishes great in tight flooded areas. This hull rides waves great when some bigger 20' boats will not. It tips quite a bit when your on the gunnels.

Great boat with good tackle and rod storage. No Storage for a NB or anything else. Need to make minor mod to the aereation system to make sure the air intake stays above the water level. Good luck
