Yesterday was my birthday and I took the day off work. I work from home, so when I take a day off, I have to get out of the house or it feels no different. It was very overcast, threatening rain, and a cold front had come in - temp dropped from the mid 80s to the mid 60s. I decided to take the boat out to the local lake and do some fishing. I had the lake entirely to myself - I was the only car at the boat ramp. I really wasn't expecting much in the way of fishing, just hoping to have some peace and quiet. I decided to go very simple and throw a small in line spinner to catch some pan fish. I was catching some small/medium size pan fish - more than I could count but mixed in I also caught 3 respectable small mouths, one of the largest rock bass I've ever caught, and a really big perch. I didn't weigh or measure any of the fish, threw them all back, and just enjoyed the day. I used the same lure to catch everything and never had to re-tie. All and all one of the better birthdays I've had.
