    Can't use NOCO GenPro10x4

Well I could if I didn't mind storing 30' of cable in my rigging compartment. Each charger lead plus the AC power lead is 6' so you've got 30' of cable that, at most, only 10' is required - in my application. Yeah, I know some folks need the supplied length and some require even more length but... From what I've gathered searching for an answer modifying the leads isn't recommended and will void the warranty on the charger. I'm less concerned about the warranty than rendering the charger to junk status if I shorten the leads. Anybody know if the length is really, really, all that important in the grand scheme of things?

Good deal. My concern is that NOCO has calculated the resistance in those leads into their charging algorithm(s) and shortening those leads impacts the precision of the charge. But for sure I don't know that. Hence the post for minds greater than mine.

What I'd really like to do is shorten the leads and put clips on them and not even install the charger in the boat.

That's above my old pay grade.. I hate clutter so I shortened each to fit.
If it affected the charge I've not been able to notice it in two years. As for the warranty I just crossed my fingers..........

If you are not going to install why not rig up clips with leads and attach to ring terminals with bolts. No warranty issues.

Battery charging is not even close to that precise. The only problem with shortening the leads is NOCO won’t honor your warranty.

Sent a message to NOCO asking, short of voiding warranty, if there's anything detrimental to the performance of the charger caused by shortening the charger leads. My question was misunderstood by NOCO support and he replied to a lengthening situation. But... I was surprised that, according to him, the warranty would not be voided by modifying the length of the leads. I restated my original question about shortening the leads in my reply to his message but I've yet to receive a reply. Apparently fuse location on the DC leads is somewhat critical although I can't figure out why that would be. Or how shortening the leads would expose the charger to potential damage.

It appears they, NOCO, monitor the battery temp while charging and I'm not sure how they do that. I thought maybe that would be the restraint for modifying the DC leads. But if you can make'em longer I'd suspect they could be made shorter as well without altering the chargers performance.

    Doug,

The 16AWG D/C leads of this charger can be extended up to an additional 10' without modifying or moving the fuses. The fuses must remain in place and the additional length must be added after the fuses. Absolutely no A/C modifications allowed. The warranty will remain intact as long as these guidelines are followed. We do not provide information on extending the cables so you will have to research the appropriate cable and connections yourself. An additional fuse may be added closer to the battery for additional safety.

Longer cables have not been tested and could result in the loss of voltage or amps.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Are you worried about appearance? Many wires/cables in a boat are too long. Coil them up neatly and zip tie. Hide them if you feel you must.

Already ordered the clips! In the end I'll probably end up shortening the cables just to make it easier to manage. At some point I'll make that decision. Just ordered the charger - spozed to be here tomorrow.
