    Minnesota Smallmouth Trip

Had a Great time catching Smallmouth a week ago, FINALLY caught one over 5lbs, had a 5 3/4 a 5 1/2 and 2 just over 5lbs, most were off the beds, the Big one I actually hooked 4 times before I got her in the boat, even got a short video of me leaving the dock in front of the cabin. Caught about 50 each day, Randy will be along with the picks

Man it sounds like you had a blast!! I have never caught a smallie outside of TN or VA. I am sure those up there fight just as hard or harder. Lanier Lanier spotted bass is the only bass that I have ever caught that fight as good as a smallmouth or maybe a little better. No doubt the smallmouth is way more aerobatic. Glad you had a great trip. Did you take your boat?

Nice fish, there is nothing better than catching giant smallmouth. I've spent some time in the Northwoods of Minnesota it's an awesome place.

yeah I know. We have been on lockdown for over a year now. Tell yesterday it wasn’t even legal to go see anybody outside your household. It’s pretty sad.

Glad you had a good trip, wish I could have seen that Bullet up there but we ended up there right behind you. The fish in that lake just grow up with oars for tails, a 2 pounder will test your drag. Special place, wish the residents and state understood it.

Me too, doesn't seem to be much concern for Smallmouth, geared more towards walleye and pike, people kept telling me to take them back to Arkansas, boy I wish I could!!

There is plenty of concern for smallmouth but the almighty walleye has been king forever and the dnr's primary focus. The reason that trophy SM population even exists is due to a protective slot for many years. Then, the walleye population crashed and the dnr opened up the SM to harvest. There were FB pictures of local launch services with coolers of SM. It's the most political fishery in the state and the management of it has been laughable.
There was a time that I didn't fish but I cannot remember it.

Yes, it is a fragile resource. We should all do what we can to protect it. Please reconsider bed fishing if possible.
