1996 Johnson FastStrike 150 Firing issue when kill switch is connected

Bought a boat that had the kill switch wires cut and started great and ran fine. Tested the old kill switch and was it was a faulty kill switch. Installed a new kill switch that I tested beforehand and had zero spark until I disconnected the new switch. So while it was disconnected I fired the motor started right up and touched the new kill switch wires and motor instantly died. Anyone have a clue to what my problem might be?

What kill switch did you install? The stop circuit connects the black yellow wire to a black ground wire.. the running position has the switch open. The stop position has the switch closed.
