    RT178 rod tube removal

Has anyone removed the rod tubes from their RT178's? How tough was it & what did you do to protect rod tips? Pics would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

It’s a one piece assembly. If you remove the recessed pedal tray you can see under the entire front deck.
I thought about removing mine at one time but there is to much metal angles in there for rods to break on. You could manufacture something though if your so inclined.
    Take a look at it.

If I remember correctly it is foamed in . Why do you want to take it out ? I recently bought a 178 . I came from a boat that didn't have rod tubes and now that I have them I would never go back . I am in the process of making short rod socks that fit into the tubes . My plan is to put two socks in each tube to double the capacity . I also cut an additional notch on each side of the handle rack .
