    Ranger 205vx

Having trouble getting my 205 to run more than 52mph. I have a 2002 Merc Optimax 225 on a 6" hydro plate running a Trophy 25. Holes are 1/2 plugged and hole shot is good, but can't get over 5000-5200 rpm's and 52 mph. Tried a Fury 24 and it was WORSE !! Just put new plugs in too, no difference. Any ideas ?

Sounds like you are down one cylinder. Those Opti’s will run fairly smooth on five cylinders ,just be down on power. Check your compression, spark and fuel.

Thanks, I'm gonna run a compression test later this week. I ran one a few years ago and they were all 100.

Compression check might not find anything. A bad coil or injector can cause it and compression be fine. If you have a good service person have them check it out.

Look at the plugs and see if one is wet and make sure your using the right plugs not some cheap replacements.

Yup could be a bad injector. Had that happen once. Motor still ran smooth so it was hard to tell other than loss of power

Yep. A bad injector actually goes rich. Motor runs smooth, but loses power.

Tough to do. Typically when an injector goes bad, the spring that closes the nozzle gets weak, so at high RPMs the mixture gets too rich. Low speeds almost no difference.

Yeah, there's only so much "Back-Yard" mechanics I can do. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the shop. DAMN !!!
