One more thing, I had contacted Minnkota and suggested a stronger accessory gas spring be available for what this topic is about.

I am getting in the habit of grabbing the head and using that to help while deploying and stowing the trolling motor. Hopefully that doesn't cause other problems in the future. May shorten the release cord also as it is hard to keep it tight as it goes from lifting the head up to holding it back once the weight is past center while deploying. sometimes if I am not thinking it has slack and gets up some speed and either slams down or yanks on my shoulder or darn near pulls my f@t@$$ over the bow. I would love a much better gas assist system that would make the trolling motor feel lighter.

I still can’t figure out why they don’t have a power deploy and retract for the Ultrex.
There was a company that made one for conventional folding brackets in the 90s. Motor guide bought the company and th product disappeared.
my fishing partner had one on a Motorguide Brute and it worked like a champ.
I think it used an electric motor and a worm gear.
    Thanks

I have used the OMC TM for the last 30 yrs.
Comparing it to the ULTREX weight wise is like
a Concrete block VS a feather. If it wasnt for
spot lock, you couldnt give me one of these
    overweight motors. LDS

Because that thing didn't work properly half the time I'm guessing.

That might work great for someone who is not 72 and had two back surgeries. Bought this motor for the spot lock and other features, didn't know I was buying a powered brick. And have contacted Minnkota, thank you for your feed back is all I got. Guess I will have to keep fishing with a buddy. NOT what I got this motor for.

Go to the Tin Forum and search for the topic. Bill Reynolds had a thread and build list.

This is the reply I got from MinnKota asking about any upgrades to the spring cylinder on the Ultrex 112
    __________________________________________________ _____________________________________

    Good morning, Ed.

There are no plans for upgrading this motor. If it is stiff or hard to deploy, you may want to have it checked with one of our service providers to make sure it is functioning properly.

Also if the mount is an any type of angle, it will be difficult.

We do not have specs on the parts of the motors.

Unless the motor is mounted on the centerline of the hull,
it would be nearly impossible to deploy the motor from directly in line.
Mine feels like it weights a ton when deploying it. Brining it back in
the boat isnt near as hard. LDS

Not sure is anyone is still following this thread, but I am having one of these built custom for my Ultrex (80# 60" shaft, Mega DI, Mega 360, and Target lock). I will report back once installed and tested if there is interest.

Ron Meadows of this forum has developed a very nice and affordable solution.

I have installed Ron Meadows product and it was noticeably easier to pull up my 45" Ultrex with Mega 360 and Rite Hite turret attached to it vs. what was on there originally. It helped in my opinion and was pretty simple to install
