    Ultrex lift assist... assist

Is anybody aware of a more powerful lift assist hydraulic for an Ultrex motor? When you start adding accessories the weight builds up and makes them quite a bit heavier. I’ve found the Transducer Shield and Saver option but think that $230 can be beat with no new holes drilled in the boat. Just a stronger piston seems like the simplest fix. Just don’t know where to get it.

Well if your still using your 24 volt ultrex, the assist for a 36v is stronger and a few people have swapped them out after adding 360

Jones trolling motor a board sponsor can get you that part

Currently using a 36v Ultrex with internal Mega DI, mega 360, and livescope. About as heavy as possible. Lol.

Definitely watching this thread. My buddy has some back issues and the Ultrex does not help.

Running a 24v Ultrex with 360 will be following this thread. If nothing better hits the market will be adding the 36v lift assist this winter.

This is all that I can find but for what it is it’s ridiculous. Could do the same all stainless for less than $100. $130 more than that plus shipping sure is a lot of “convenience.”

Would like to know the dimensions and whatnot of the stock LiftAssist without having to tear into it. At least be a starting point. Double up on what’s there, but getting it to fit... or stronger single hydraulic, but which one.

If it's just a hydraulic shock can you not just put a more powerful one in?

Take old one off and look at model number and lbs force on it. Find another with same open and closed dimensions and try doubling the lbs force rating.

Don’t believe that’s listed but haven’t torn into it. Not found anywhere MinnKota lists it in parts description either as they just list it as a lift for X model and size trolling motor. Nothing to do with hydraulic force of the piston. Agree though that I would like to have it as a starting point. Be easy after that.

Look up parts list schematic for your motor. Might be in there.

No such luck. Internal part number...

However, zooming in on the TSS kit pic I can read the model piston used there. “lwcpb 200 40” comes back to a 20” Amazon piston with 40# of force. So using 2 in the kit an additional 80# would be a good start as to what’s needed.

Nice finding that on the TSS kit. But 80# added to what pound of force? Just put ultrex on my Phoenix hopping to fish a few more yrs. Will be watching this thread. Who will be the first to tear into their Ultrex to find out details of the ram used.

Called minnkota to ask about poundage on Ultrex 112 piston. They gave me a range of 185-205. Much higher than expected. The 80 lb thrust model was down around 140#. So looks like need a 250-275lb piston.

Thanks for finding out that information. If it comes with a 185-205 and still feels like a brick, dam. You didn't happen to ask the max length of the mounting eyes for piston did ya.

Looking all over for any instillation instructions/video on installing a Transducer Shield and Save "Lift Assist Booster # L A B (trolling motor lift assist) with no luck.
TS&S seems to be the only one offering a lift assist for a Ultrex, 45", 36V, 112#, anyone seen anything that looks to be quality made and worth the money
TS&S Makes quality products that I trust (had them on previous boat and this one) Trying to do my research before dropping $225.
Any and all productive suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks

I changed the one on my 24V Ultrex to the one for the 36V Ultrex. Still not enough for the MEGA 360.

    The 24V piston is 640N
    The 36V piston is 860N

The length from center to center of the attachment points is 9 9/16"
    The stroke is 3 3/8"

I contacted a mfg that makes gas springs to see about getting one in the 1000N to 1200N range. Was referred to Granger to submit the specs and after I did that==== nothing.

    BTW 860N is 193.3 #

I just replaced my stock Ultrex 80 lb spring with the 112 lb version (Minn Kota Gas Spring Cylinder and Shock Assembly part # 2288405). Ordered it from Northland Marine
    https://northlandmarine.com/products...a5ab5b0d&_ss=r
Took 30 minutes to swap. I fished today but didn't pay any attention if the TM/Mega 360 was easy to deploy and stow- too busy catching bass :)

Just located the data I supplied for a stronger gas spring.
    Stainless Steel cylinder and rod
    Stroke is 85mm
    Rod diameter is 10MM
    Cylinder diameter is 22MM
Bore diameter of the connecting ends==fit a 10MM rod
Usage frequency rating 1 per hour
    Force in the 1000N range

I don't have any addition weight on my fortrex but added a simple 1" web strap loop about a foot long tied under the head of the trolling motor. Use it along with the grab handle to lift and lower then TM. Much easier and will help preserve the pull cord and motor with less slamming.
