    Motor Mounting Bolts

I just got my new road cover in, one with the ratchet straps that connect via a bracket to the lower motor mounting bolts. Mine are too short so I need to replace them with longer.
Do I need any kind of special 1/2" ss bolt or can I just get the garden variety that Lowes sells?

I just installed a vance jackplate and the install kit had 2 1/2" ss bolts and ss nylocks. When I removed the motor to transom I replaced the 5 1/2" bolts with ss from Fastenal. Same markings on the heads. Then I went to install my all aboard ladder and needed 3" . Went to Lowes and picked them up. Same markings on heads.
    Not 100% sure but I think 316ss is 316ss.

Maybe I am mistaken, but Coach, you are correct a 316 bolt is a 316 bolt.

That being said, I would have a hard time imagining that a 316 bolt is the correct material for your motor mounting bolts. I would imaging a fine threaded 17-4 would be preferred. 316 isn't even as strong as a grade 5 standard bolt.

The original, factory bolts on my motor and jackplate are labeled "S30400 THE". They are fine thread. When I replaced my motor 3 years ago I also replaced the bolts with the same. Marinas wanted crazy money for them, but I bought them from a "mechanical" supplier in Daytona for a couple bucks each, including nylocks. Some people say to use brass nuts instead of nylocks....

THANKS for all of the replies guys! I called a local marina this morning and the parts dept had what I needed so I just went there in lieu of the big box store option.
