What? $15 BILLION just to get in?

Yep, $15 Billion just to build an entry level chip manufacturing plant! The amount of expertise and money that goes into our electronics is incredible. Check out how these things are built! We need our own plants in the US!

InTel already has multiple chip manufacturing plants in the US. They also have several in overseas locations including one in China.

Drop in the bucket when compared to the amount of $$$ we spend on people too lazy to work, or go back to work. Cut the freebies and front some chip construction projects. Make those wanting $800 per week for nothing staff the assembly lines.

Why wouldn't they as a Chinese conglomerate owns Intel™ and some other U.S. companies

Hope we have plenty stored up for our weapons and jets. In time of war this could b a huge problem.

Intel has 10 fabs in the U.S. Micron, Texas Instruments, GM, BAE, Analog Devices, Fujitsu, NEC, NXP(Motorola), ON, Infineon, Global Foundries all have fabs in the U.S. as well. There are a ton more companies that have fabs in the U.S.

TSMC is opening a fab in the U.S. and Intel is adding another fab as well.

The process to create an environment where silicon can be printed is very expensive to construct and maintain. The equipment is highly specialized as well. Printing transistors at the nanometer scale requires extreme precision. So, yeah, it's expensive.

We supply fabs in US, Europe and Asia with materials used to produce those chips. Biggest market is Asia. Business is booming. Been working overtime for 18 month. We had a surprise 20 percent increase in order for one of our part numbers. Issue right now is getting container ships to take it over seas. We are producing and stock piling in several warehouse. Orders keep coming in. Material sits.

100% agree, eliminate it all. Medicaid, food stamps, Medicare, Socialist security and any other state sponsored welfare. People will step up with charity for those who truly need.

The government would need to repay people all their money they took from them for Social Security and Medicare. I would agree with a drastic cut in the others though.

There is no shortage of manufacturing capacity, but a supply chain disruption due to a pandemic. A year from now (probably less) you will be able to buy your truck with the usual $10k discount.

I think the point is a north American based plant where dependence on foreign whims are not meant to hold us as an economic hostage.

Certianly hope this is the case, particularly if we have the state-side capacity as mentioned above. From the supply chain side, is this related to items from overseas or is the disruption completely state-side? If it's state-side, then we need to be working to address it and avoid it in the future. I went to a local auto dealership last week looking for a used vehicle for my daughter and their normally full new lot was nearly empty.

We have plenty of chip plants here. Fished a tx with a Micron plant manager here in the DC area. They spend a boatload of $$$ there (billions) manufacturing chips, I think he said ones that are designed for harsh environments.

$2 trillion U.S. dollars...divided by 300 million American citizens = $6,666.00 and we got $1200 per 300 million Americans ? Where did the rest go ?

I have known of several manufacturers that owned plants in Southeast Asia and India that were completely disassembled and moved to Mexico. I worked in a steel mill that fell on hard times and sold machinery to India, right before filing for bankruptcy. The geopolitical environment needs to be dismantled and kick started by retrieving the machinery and screw the foreign income policies. Just my thoughts!
