Does anyone know the specs I need to consider for replacing the winch strap on a 188vs? I need to replace mine.

Why not just cut off the faded part and re-attach the Hook ? I've done mine a couple of times. I use a Saddle Hitch Knot, but you could always take it to an Upholstery shop and they will sew it on for you for a few bucks ! Or just buy a new one that's rated for 3000#.

This is the one I used and tested recently. A woman ran a red light in front of me and I t-boned her in the driver’s door doing 50mph. The winch strap held the boat from coming off the trailer. It did slide about 3 feet forward, the bow hook went up and over the roller but the strap remained attached. My boat was an 18’ Basscat.

There are some on EBay for about $30
I just replaced mine with this one, as I liked the safety strap sewn in:

Original equipment is rated [at least the winch is] for 1400 pounds. I replaced mine with a 5000 pound rated strap after breaking a few. There’s little price difference in higher-rated straps; it’s just important to make sure that the strap you select will fit inside the drum.

The cheapest I found the double hook was from Ranger Parts.

The “safety” strap goes from the bottom of the winch post to the bow eye. There should be a hole machined into the bottom of the winch post [in a separate tab that is welded on] for one end of the safety strap to attach to. Some of us who have upgraded to stronger, aftermarket winch straps have fashioned our own safety strap, using cable or chain.
