    Breathing issues real bad

so i went to the hospital two times this week. they gave me prednisone and it seemed to help. they checked out the heart and ekg shows no heart issues at all. did blood work all came back perfect. but i cant for the life of me take a full breath of air and it sucks man. I just about passed out two times this week. Now on the way home from the hospital we got in to a head on collision two minutes from my home. no one got hurt thank god me wife and kid all good and the other guy is ok too. now while this was going on i was breathing ok. went to a funeral on friday and had to pull over and get out of the car and walk around felt like heart pounding out of my chest (but wasnt afib) wife took over driving got to the church and had to leave in 30 minutes. i started working in the garage and tinkering with things and breathing fine. i find that if im doing something or distracted im ok but i go to lay down and relax and i start breathing hard. go figure. I think it may be anxiety what you guys think. any of you guys experience this and what did you do to fix it. i mean i dont feel like O MY GOD IM STRESSED OUT BLA BLA BLA... but i do have a lot on my plate and its piling up. the hospitol said to make an appointment with my PCP but hes on vacation for 2 weeks so now i dont know if i need medication or not and where to get it from if i need it.

That sounds like a full blown anxiety attack. Have known a couple people that at one time or another this exact thing will happen. Get some help soon please as the long lasting effects are nothing good.

I agree. From your description, as soon as you relax, and start thinking about it, Whammo!

Go see a Heart specialist ASAP. Blood clots in the lung do this too. My mom died of a stroke that sent a blood clot to her lungs that suffocated her....

since your PCP is out of town you could go to an urgent care. they can look you over and/or order up specialists or imaging etc. if needed. we have some pretty good ones around here.. your insurance probably has an in network list of providers..

Be sure to get a thyroid test. I had many of the same symptoms, and it turned out my thyroid was bad. When you can’t breath, it causes an anxiety attack. Simple blood test.

Sounds like what I went through. Anxiety and panic attacks. Once I got on the correct medication I am okay. They told me mine was a chemical imbalance.

Did you not read his original post, he did they ran many test, EKG, blood work, etc... nothing showed. Hence why he posted here. As someone who has suffered severe anxiety usually due to overwork and lack of sleep I have had the exact same things he is experiencing happen. Literally spend days feeling like you can't breathe and as it gets worse your brain starts to f with you and makes your heart race. It is crazy scary and not good at all but is treatable.

Make a journal of your daily activities, paying particular note of what you were doing before it occurred, and after. Write down how you felt, describing it in detail, take your pulse rate, regular, or irregular, nausea, type pain, does breathing make it worse, things like that, including things you ate or drank before, and your activity. When things like this happen, details tend to fade, and we forget things, and the MD needs a good history of the incident.

After the birth of my little boy, I was really struggling from lack of sleep and starting a new career while taking care of my first born and wife recovering from birth. I too had the symptom of “not being able to take a deep breath” and it seemed to be only when I was truly thinking about my breathing. When I was distracted or “busy” I never noticed any shortness of breath. One day I felt like I couldn’t breathe and had some chest pains which sent me into an absolute spiral. I went to the local ER and was given ekg, blood tests checking for heart enzymes (checking for damage to heart) among a multitude of other tests. Every single one came back completely normal and I was diagnosed as having a panic attack. My PCP prescribed me some medication to calm my nerves and after I got back to a normal rest/sleep schedule the symptoms subsided.

I remember vividly the hopeless feeling of not being able to take a deep breath. It really is scary and can start a panic attack that just makes matters worse. I would definitely speak with my primary care physician to see if medication could help your situation and perhaps about some counseling/therapy. I did both and they truly helped me get back to my old self. Neither of those avenues have to be permanent either (therapy or medicine) but sometimes we all need some help to get through trials in life. I wish you the best and praying you get relief from these symptoms.

    Sure does sound like anxiety.
15 years or so ago I was much consumed with work and school in the evening. Not enough sleep. When I laid down for a nap I’d find myself waking up with my heart racing and gasping for air.
I went to the Doc. He immediately told me to take a week away from everything and re-prioritize my life to slow down.
I was able to cut back on work OT with doctors orders. He gave me some anti anxiety medication. I was back to normal not long afterwards.

Sounds like anxiety plus where we live, the pollen count is off the charts. Take up a hobby, like drinking or fishing.
