    Lynyrd Skynyrd Question

I have always been a huge Skynyrd fan......grew up during their prime days.

What if they were from Cleveland OH instead of Florida.

Would they still be labeled a Southern Rock band?

I think they are just a rock and roll band and one of the best.

Some how Sweet Home Ohio just doesn’t do it. Has to do with where they grew up and lived as well as the music. Listen to some of the lesser know songs

I think southern rock is a certain sound and not always based on where you are from.

Can't be Southern Rock if you are from Cleveland.

I agree to a certain point Mark. Perfect example would be CCR. They sounded like they were straight out of Louisiana instead of California.

Same here as my wife and I have seen them several times before the crash and later with his brother as lead singer. As the song says “ It’s only Rock and Roll and I like it, like it,yes I do! Don’t care where they originated from. Also love Steve Miller and he is from Michigan I think. I was born in Waukegan Illinois live in Mississippi now ( parents from here). I saw ZZ Top and Skinner the same day. Talent is talent and I think it is called southern rock just because they were from here not because it is really different from other rock.

Sweet Home Alabama was my wake up song in college.
It got the blood flowing and the feet moving.

No is the answer to your question.

Well, I'm going down to the swamp
Gonna watch me a hound dog catch a 'coon
You know the hound dog make a music
On a summer night under a full moon

Lord, fetch my cane pole mama
Gonna catch a bream or maybe two
Lord, fetch my cane pole mama
Gonna catch a bream or maybe two
When the hound dog start barkin'
Sounds like ol' Son House singin' the blues

I'm a big Skynyrd fan as well. I would have loved to have seen them live pre-crash, but that was before my time. There are a couple good documentaries about the band online you can watch if interested. And if any of you fans have some extra cash in your pocket, the Fender Strat that Ed King used to write and record "Sweet Home Alabama" is actually for sell for a cool $450K.

If I was granted the wish of being able to play one song on a Guitar it would be "Gimme Three Steps"

I can't imagine "Hell House where many of those great songs were written being in Ohio"

That would be its origin. So if I am throwing an Alabama rig, Carolina rig or a Texas rig I have to call it something else since I am not from those states?
