02 Tr 21 fury set up

Hey guys my 02 tr 21 225 efi slung a blade yesterday. No surprise I was running a 27 p Yamaha m 1. Boat ran great 73 @ 5650. Ordered a new 26 fury as everything I read says pitch 1 down. Any recommendations for a prop to pad height? I running 2/14 now. Thanks in advance.

After 27 views,no one will comment,so I’ll give it a go.I don’t think you’ll be able to turn that 26 Fury,it’s a very stiff running prop. The Yamaha M series prop has a smaller blade area and so is easier to turn,no comparison to the Fury. I have a Mercury EFI 225 on a Ranger vx 520 and couldn’t turn a Fury 25 very well. Hole shot was slower and lost 2-3 mph top end. IMO,the best prop for you will be a Tempest+ 25 Or 26. If you want to run a Fury,go with a 25.

Thanks rip bass. It’s on its way so no choice now but to give it a go. I will try and trade it if it doesn’t work out.

Late coming . But like Rip Bass said above. I think a Tempest Plus 26 P is the prop for your boat . Set around where you have it now at 2 1/4

Is your motor a down draft model or just a regular 225 efi. Mine is a down draft and the best prop for your boat and motor is a trophy either a 26" B&B or a 27" if will turn it. I run the same hull but have a 2004 225 Mercury efi and can turn a 27" trophy to the limiter which on mine is 5750 but it's a down draft motor. The boat runs better with a four blade because it picks the hull up out of the water. I ran a 26 tempest but it over revved and shut down all the time. Mine will go 78 when loaded properly.

I'm not sure if mine is down draft or not. It's an 02 225 efi.

02 should be a down draft look and see what the max rpms on the motor are. If it's 5750 it's a down draft and if it's 5800 of more it's an old style efi with a regular intake.

It's the old style efi not the down draft model. The down draft motor has close to 250 hp that's why I can turn the 27 Trophy.

Darn..it did however turn the 27 M1 within 150 rpm of the max. Hope it works out or I might just trade for a 25p

I ran a 27 tempest for a little while but didn't like it best I ever got out of it was 72 at 1/2" below pad just trying to see how high it would ran before I bought a 26" trophy. Since that over revved I bought a 27 trophy and a 27 Pro Max. I can only turn the Pro Max 5650 but that gets me 76 with it and the trophy I can turn over 5750 and make the limiter beep but it won't shut it down. I don't think you can run the fury high enough to get the speed or the rpm's you want.

It's going to turn like a 27" prop but it can run high 2" under or so with out a problem.

Ok borrowed a 25p fury from a friend yesterday and got out for a fish. Rig jumped out of the hole like an animal, pulled hard mid range and ran 69.6 but bumping the rev limiter. Going to try a 26p when I find one. Prop to pad is 3”.

Drop the motor untill the speed and handling improve, will end up around 3 in with the Fury, RPM will go down and speed up, When you find the sweet spot send the prop to Mark Croxten or Ronnie Gilbert for tuning, this will end up being you best prop choice in the end for overall use

If you drop the motor too deep you'll learn all about the Triton chine walk.

    Thats fact for sure
A properly reworked Fury will run at the same heights or slightly more than tempest and will no longer be weight sensitive any more than a tempest
    Thank You Leon Pugh
