I know the HDI only does 2d and downscan, but does the 3 in 1 produce a better signal? In other words would the picture be the same on either transducer in downscan?

2D is exactly the same, downscan more or less the same (I personally prefer DS from the HDI).
I agree with erik. The hdi is better on the downscan than the 3n1
