Wrangling a Size 31 Battery Into Your Boat

Today my wife and I put in the X2 Size 31 battery from Battery+. At 75 lbs. that is a little too much battery for this 71 year old to get onto the back deck let alone lowered into the bay with about a 1/2 inch of wiggle room on each side. So I used a 4:1 hoist and it worked like a charm. My wife guided the battery in while I had hoist duty.

The hoist is one that someone on this board (THANK YOU!) recommended and I pass along the the link for anyone who might be interested: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. If you are squeezed for space, I also recommend the T-H Marine stainless steel buckled narrow battery tray from TW: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/T-H_...e-THBATHO.html

You will love this battery as I had one for the last 4 years until I upgraded to Lithium.
Never had an issue and never ran out of cranking battery. They are heavy.

I love it when my neighbors look into my garage when my wife is helping me...holding a winch or wrench in a tight place. Very proud of her.

I actually like put one foot in the bilge area to make the lifting in a little easier. That thing is nutbusting heavy.

I don't have any issues getting the 4 - 31's in. When i replace them i have the store put them in. I have never broke a sweat in 30 years putting batteries in anything.

I feel your pain. My motto when having to lift anything heavy is "think like an Egyptian ". Them boys could leverage anything.
If I can't figure a way to leverage or use the tractor, I wait until one of the kids shows up

I never take my batteries out for the winter. And...when its time to get new batteries...I just have Sherm's Marine do it for me. I too am too old to lift those things around by myself.

When I built my boat and truck man cave I did install a 14' I beam across where my boat engine would normally be. I installed a chain hoist on a trolley so I can remove the engine for service or change jack plates, etc. I have all NorthStar 31 AGMs and may have to use this hoist next time batteries need attention.
