If you’ve ever worked retail, you’ll laugh at this!

"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments

4 years at HD. And I laughed. Thanks Jeff. Good start to my day.

After I quit I was out to breakfast with a couple of guys I used to work there with. By chance one of our managers was eating there so we asked him to sit with us. I filled his ear pretty good. I told them if they were a startup operation they wouldn't last. We sold tracking devices to customers but we desperately needed them for our own equipment and instead wasted customers time searching 400 ft long store. Same for items placed on overheads. A Cabelas store in Nebraska could tell a store in Ct. exactly where a fishing lure was in the back of it's store. At HD we had 400 dollar items in limbo in the overheads. If a customer showed up after doing their research to know we had the item they wanted and it took me too long to find it I gave them 50 dollars off for wasting their time.

That's so true and hilarious! I worked at a Western Auto years ago, and not in a good part of town. How interesting that was. So many times I wanted to say to people, "I really shouldn't sell you this part/tool because you have no freakin idea what you're doing and you're going to kill someone!"

After I retired from my full time job I took a job at Home Depot working part time. Customers often said to me , “I spend a lot of money here”. My reply was “ Thank you for the business, we appreciate it”. Most did not like my reply.

I am at Home Depot (for another week) also. I have no idea how this company stays in business. There isn’t enough room to list the ways they piss away money and screw the customer over.

yeah i love how they (customers) act like babies when they dont get their way. I work on sundays alot and they come in the store dressed up in suites or dresses from church and yell at us for something we cant control and I always ask DID THEY TEACH YOU TO ACT LIKE THAT IN CHURCH.

Horribly true. My (departed) ex-wife used to treat sales people and waiters like she owned them. I was constantly embarrassed.
