    Rod buckles VS Bungee cord

What do you prefer retractable rod buckles or bungee cord to hold front deck rods

Bungee cords if boat is not equipped with buckles. Too big of a hole to cutout for me. I've been using bungee cords for 10 years and worked fine, old one wears out, run to wally world and buy a pack tie a knot where you want it and boom done. But I've fished with the other straps too and they work well

I put rod buckles on my tin boat. I got tired of worrying when the bungee cord would break. It's not hard to do, you just have to take your time.

My boat didn't come with anything so I put the bungees in. Like another poster, I did not want to cut holes in my deck. So far so good. They're also cheap and easy.

I’ve had both. I like the bungee better.

I had retractables in the gunwale on mine and replaced with bungees. The retractables had a gap between the straps and deck so they didn’t hold the rods securely. I really liked the bungees but would consider retractables again if they were mounted in the deck.

After having both I like the bungees. The buckle strap doesn’t fit tight enough for me

Bungee for me. I like the constant tension that they have.

A bungee strap is less likely to fail in the roughest of water or if you accidentally spear waves. I’d go with bungee if you fish in those types of big waters.

My last three Rangers have buckles. IMO they’re more visually appealing since they retract when not in use and they get the job done save the scenario above.

I’ve had bungee, Velcro, and buckles, I prefer the buckles by far. I’ve never had an issue in rough water with any of them and have been buckles for the longest.
