Wow, so many here favor bungies, I detest them, always breaking either with rubber rot or the -plastic ends breaking. I love rod straps.

I had bungee micros on my old champ and they worked fine. Carried a bottle of them in the boat in case I lost or broke one. Liked the rod buckles on my ranger more. They both do the job and work.

I tried RodSaver straps and didn't like them. Finally settled on just backpacking straps. On the rod locker lid, I just loop two long ones around the lid. On the other side, I cut the strap into two pieces and screw them down with stainless screws and "finish washers". The last time I bought straps they were about $2 each. They hold fine and the combo capacity can be way more than the stretchy/Velcro RodSaver straps. I really hated those. My OFB's boat has the recoiling type like G's vide showes...they're ok and haven't had any problems with them. I don't think I would go to the trouble of sawing into the cap to install them.
Don't bother me, I'm screwing for virginity.

I killed a 12-pack just to watch it die.

Bungee...I don't use that hook that sticks up and stepping on it. I put a loop, cord on the side of the lid.

I have had all three types and much prefer the buckles. I have not had any trouble with mine. My Buddy lost a rod last week to a bungee that had gotten stretched out a little too much.

Well I guess he should have invested $2.00 in a new bungee. I think buckles are much more attractive than bungees, but my bungees match and are quick and work fine. I don't think they would take 3 foot waves well, but neither would I.
