Anglers Inn Bass Fishing is on Fire

A good friend and fishing partner and I recently went to Billy Chapman’s Anglers Inn lodges on Picachos and El Salto.
fished two and a half days at each lake.

for the trip, we had 619 total bass, an average of 124/day, with 1 over 8#, two over 7.5#, 3 over 6.25#, 8 between 5 and 5.85, and an incredible 79 over 4#. Many of the “smaller” fish were over 3.5#!!

Most fish were shallow, less than 10’. 7” Senkos, 8” lizards, and 10” Powerworms did most of the work.
No top water at all, limited swim bait and crankbaits bite. COVID tests were done in a professional manner, and travel was not a problem.

one of my best trips ever, and there is NO other outfitter on either of these lakes that I would use, besides Billy Chapman.

Did a Mexico Picachos trip a few years back. Really showed me how aggressive unpressured and uneducated bass can be. Literally a fish on every piece of wood cover in the lake.

Awesome report Mike. Only fifty-something days until I'm back.

If anyone is interested, my wife and I have compiled a guide to fishing El Salto and Picachos:

Happy to answer additional questions or help you book a trip.

Thanks. It was a labor of love. We went to Anglers Inn El Salto for a "once in a lifetime trip" in 2009, and now (15-20 trips later) we can't stay away.

Until you experience a piece of water like that you can't imagine. Not trying to compare but when I used to travel to Maine with guys from my club in the mid 90s there was a remote pond about 150 acres that we used to go to. It didn't have a launch. You had to put in on a lawn. We nicknamed it lake stupid the fish were so easy to catch. All you had to do was cast into some type of cover. The top water fishing was insane. We even used spoons in the eel grass on windy days. The bass were mostly cookie cutter 14 to 16 inches but there were fish over 5 lbs caught also. No challenge involved but a lot of fun.
