2006 Optimax going through a set of spark plugs every year 1B425291

I use NGK IZFR5G (gapped at .032-.033, checked with feeler gauge) on a 200 optimax. This started 4-5 years ago and each year I have to change the spark plugs, if I don’t at some point, the motor will not start, it may sputter, but will not start. Once I change the plugs, no issues for a year. I use quickleen and quickcare, DFI oil. Nobody I know is going through spark plugs like this, could there be an underlying issue that is causing me to have to go through spark plugs.

You should be replacing them every 365 days or 100 hours whichever comes first

Post some pics of the old ones
Yes there could be other problems adding to this
    Thank You Leon Pugh

Plug gaps on Iridium plugs are set with WIRE gauge ONLY...NEVER use a feeler gauge.

I thought it was just the go/no go method which uses a special feeler gauge.

Yup spark plugs need changed annually. I had a 2010 Opti 200 and it’s performance change would be noticeable after annual maintenance. There is nothing wrong with your motor.

What octane gas are you using? Are you using Quickleen?

It is, but it's not a special feeler gauge it's just a round wire gauge.

Thanks guys. I just changed them. I will start next year with a wire gauge. I use 87 octane and quickleen.

Do you have a Smartcraft gauge to see the coolant temp? If the motor is not coming up to temp, it can make the motor run rich. It may be worth checking/cleaning the thermostats. It is simple but you will need a couple of cheap gaskets.

    +1

Up to temp on both banks- properly gapped and proper gap, plugs torqued to 20 lbs/ft, appropriate fuel, additives and oil, and limit IDLE speed run-time. These are the most common items you can do to limit carbon levels and help keep your engine happy.
