2011 200HP E-Tech, Have to wiggle throttle to get it to start

I have a 2011 200HP E-TECH on a 1997 Ranger 518. The throttle shifts fine into neutral and then once I go to restart the motor after I turn it off, it won't register it being in neutral even though it shifted fine and if you apply a little backwards pressure to the throttle while it being in neutral sometimes you can get it to start. Does anyone know what would cause the motor to not recognize neutral even though it shifted fine and will turn over instantly once it registers a certain position?

Your description leads to the shift cable needing a little adjustment. What has been performed in this regard in the last 10 years?
If the shift control is the same one since 1997, there is a lot of wear in that mechanism in the last 14 years that creates the need for adjustment.
There is a neutral safety switch inside of the shift control.
