    06 Startos 201 Pro XL

Hello, I have a 06 Stratos 201 Pro XL powered by a Yamaha VMAX HPDI – 250 HP and currently has a 27 pitch stock Yamaha prop.

I went from a 6 inch hydraulic jack plate to a 10 inch atlas and added 2 talons to the rear and now I cannot get out of the hole or on plain in the warm weather months.

I put a 25p Yamaha T1 prop on and it was significantly better with higher RPM’s. I had to move the plate all the way up and move it down as I trimmed up to pop out of the hole - seams like a lot of work to get chugging

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this set up and if you can guide me in the right direction for the best performing prop. I would like a great hole shot without too much sacrifice on the top end.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

set about 3.5 ptp 25 or 24 4 blade a good option-- are the talons as high as possible in both adjustment locations? is prop vented? need to hit 3500-3800 or so rpms when taking off fully tucked where are you at on rpms?

05 same boat. I added a 8" jackplate, 10' power poles and switched from a t-27 prop to a 4-blade 25" Fury. Hole shot fast and did not loose too much on top end

How do you set p2p with a hydraulic jack plate?I purchased a 4 blade fury 25 this weekend and still was horrible out of the hole. Water was 83.5. I am honestly considering taking off the talons.....

measure PTP and see where the plate is. set it to 3.25 below and mark it or look at gauge if equipped? what is rpms on take off fully tucked? needs to be about 3500-3800? is prop vented? holes open? do you lower motor until boat rolls over then raise motor?

My guess is that 10 inch plate is killing your hole shot. You have added a bunch of weight to the stern and moved the engine back which changes the leverage the engine will have during hole shot.

You added more set back, they make a lift plate that covers the bottom of the Atlas which is currently acting like a giant scoop. Must have item on the 10” plus set back plates.

All holes are open, I did not get to run it with them all closed and believe that will help tremendously.

I have the engine tucked and jack plate all the way up. It just won't jump out. I think with all holes closed it will bite much better.

Jumping Jimmy, I think so too. However other guys have same set up and no issues. My boat ran well but thought the ride would improve quite a bit with a 10inch plate.

I have the plate underneath installed. The talons are the scoop they create A LOT of resistance.

closing the vent holes will lower the rpms on take off and kill hole shot? what is the rpms on take off now with holes open????? jack plate needs to be down some maybe if you need more bite? are you blowing out on take off?

How many batteries do you have? With the talons and 10" jackplate it does shift the weight to the stern.
I am running 3 batteries, 2- 10' power poles and a fixed 8" jackplate. My Ptp is 3.25". No issues out of hole and not much loss on top end.
Can you post a picture of the batteries in the compartment box. I would like to see if the batteries are closest to the front of compartment or more towards rear.

Those talon brackets are like plows on narrow boats. Your gonna need to experiment with 4 blade props

4 blade 25" Fury prop balanced and blueprinted is your best option. You will loose speed ranges anywhere 1.5 to 3 mph top end

You just need some added tail lift to overcome the added drag from the toys. A hydra foil or bottom plate under the jack plate to impart lift getting out of the hole but is free an clear once on the pad.

I've got the 200 pro xl with a 10" bob's and a pair of 12-foot talons on tilt brackets. I use a 24 pitch 4-blade fury, and a 25 pitch 3-blade tempest plus....both have great hole shot, and pretty solid top end. I think that 27 is just gonna be too much. I agree with mactlman that maybe the foil is a good option. I had great results with a foil on another (non stratos) boat that was having hole shot issues. It also helped a ton for going slower while staying on pad without porpoise-ing.

Thank you all for the replies. I have many things to consider. I have 4 batteries in the back, changed the set back and added talons. I changed too much. I need to go back to a 6 or 8, Loose the talons, or go with litiums.

Adding the talons expect to go down 1-2 pitches not because of overall weight but location of weight. Make sure bottom of jackplate is covered to not increase drag. Also do not raise your jackplate all the way up for takeoff. Find a good spot and tune your exhaust venting to maximize takeoff.

I don’t think the Yamaha will spin anything close to that. With that load and that prop it’s equivalent to a 26 or 27 fury 3 or tempest.

I have the same exact boat with the same motor on a six inch plate. You just made my mind up that I will do without power poles. Spot lock will have to do.

I have an 08 201 with one Talon and a 10 inch Atlas Hydraulic plate. Going to lithium made a huge difference.
