When I step on the stomp switch nothing happens but if I press it real hard in the middle with my thumb it works. P.S. I am no lightweight.

If you purchased it as a package deal you need to call Minn Kota and see what they tell you. They may send you a new one.
I believe MK may be having a little issue with the remotes. I have had a few customers (both mine and other dealers) contact me regarding remote issues.
