24 pitch Bravo XS on my Cougar?

I've got a new to me 2011 Cougar FTD with a 2011 250 Pro XS. Currently it has a 26 Fury 3, which works fine, but sitting on my shelf in the garage I have a 23 Bravo XS that needs to be cleaned up. I've considered having Croxton blue print it and turn it up to a 24. The reason I'm attracted to the 4 blade is that my current hole shot is pretty mediocre (I have a pair of 12 foot talons that don't help) and the small natural lakes I fish don't give me much of a chance to run wide open even if I wanted to, so the 4 blade probably suits my needs better.

Is 24 too little prop for this set up? I don't want this to work so bad that I would buy a new 4 blade, but if I can make this existing one work I'd be happy.

run it in see...holeshot will likely be insanely good but you are going to hit the limiter quick...a 27 bravo would be more appropriate for that boat.

I ran a 26 Bravo1 XS on my 2013 Puma FTD / 250 ProXS and was on the limiter at 2000 feet elevation. The 23/24 Bravo is going to be all over the limiter. The 26 did have a great holeshot on my Puma. You might be able to swap it for a 26 on the prop forum, someone with a 4 stroke could probably run it.

It will not be enough pitch. Sell it on here and get the correct prop.

I ran a croxton bravo xs 27 on my cougar. It would hit the rev limiter easy @76-77. And it would do it in short time. Holeshot king. You can turn a 28 xs. Dont waste money on that 23. It will be slow and too many rpms for sure.

Ok so it sounds like we've eliminated the 23/24 Bravo from the picture.

Another question. If I were to sell this and pursue a used 4 blade, do we prefer the Bravo or the Fury 4 on this hull? And if a 26 Bravo would likely be my correct pitch, what would it be in a Fury 4? Same or different?

What's your max rpms with the 26 fury 3? And what elevation are your lakes at?

If you can turn a 26 fury 3 then the 26 fury 4 will work fine. If you want a little better holeshot with 2 people and live wells full get the 25 fury4. Or a 27-28 bravo. 28 bravo xs if you want to go fast. Make sure its the bravo 1 xs. Ive run them all. All work good.

That Bravo is too small for your setup

I'm running a 25 Bravo worked by Ronnie Gilbert on my PIII with a 200 Pro XS and can hit the limiter. I believe yours is too small for a 250. Good Luck

I have same 2011 setup but Puma FTD and 12’ talons, 52”:Fortrex, 4 AGMs, 3 graphs upfront and 25 Bravo XS1 has really good holeshot but was barely on the limiter by myself in cool weather (6100), half tank gas, mod load no water in wells 71 mph Kept the 26 BravoXS 1, 2 holes plugged still 3 sec holeshot, 73 mph, 5850 at sea level.

if speed isn’t important the 25 hole shot is amazing and midrange will set you back.

That said don’t run them too high as the stern really gets lifted.

PS I also have Ronnie Gilbert worked 25 Fury 3 that is my all around prop 72 mph, 5750 with more to go and not quite as good as the 26 Bravo XS 1. But good tx prop. 25 Tempest Plus worst holeshot but decent with great bow lift 73 mph with more to go easy to drive. I want to try a 24 Fury 3 and think it might be best fit for power and speed for my setup.

I am eunning a 2004 cougar FTD w/ 225 Optimax and am considering a 25 Bravo 1 XS for improved holeshot over my 25 Fury 3...but will I be turning the bravo xs 25 on the limiter in the low 60s or should I expect upper 60s loaded?

The 25 Bravo1XS will turn the same approximate rpms as a 23 Fury, you need to expect to pitch it up by 2 over the fury for same rpms, I would get a 26 Bravo for better holeshot, but you'll lose a little speed

Thanks Mike I will start there. Do those Bravos like to be run higher than a fury?
