    1994 20xd 1999 225 Promax Sport 2.5

Hi everyone, new to the forums. Just bought my 4th bullet 2 weeks ago. I’m running a 1994 20xd, with a 1999 225 Promax Sport 2.5. I used to always run a 3.0 Blackmax before this current boat. Over never ran a Promax before, so I’m having some troubles getting it where I want it. I’m running a Brucado ACU and Brucado SVS, the heads have been worked also. I know I need to be running a bigger prop, but not sure which way to go with it. Right now it’s running a 26 4 blade Fury. I’ve talked to some buddies that say I should be running no less than a 28P. With me and my partner this past Monday, loaded with our gear and half tank of fuel, I could only get 66 at 6200 rpms. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

You're throwing a huge amount of slip. Which says you're too high for that particular prop. Promax has to turn rpms to get it's power, going to a bigger wheel and still having a ton of slip will not work. Find your right height with what you've got, then see where you are.

Thank you pat. I actually looked again, my prop is a 26 4 blade trophy not fury. If I stayed with a 26 with more cup, and set my motor height, would that help more than setting the motor right with the prop I have? I hope I don’t sound like an idiot, I’ve always had someone else set my boats up right. I have wife and kids now and I’m learning it’s cheaper to do more for myself, in some cases.

The first lesson on setup is also the hardest for a lot of people to really get. Rule? Take it too far and bring it back. You need to know what too high and too low is. The only way you’ll find just right. Too many times advice is given to set it here and you’ll get xx out of it. Well meaning but usually bad advice.
Why? No two anything are exactly identical. Especially props. So it’s up to you to adjust what you have to what it needs. The boat will tell you what it wants and remember small moves can make big changes.
